Temporary workshop and industrial buildings turn up in more sectors than most people realise. Manufacturing businesses using them to bridge a factory extension. Construction sites running on-site fabrication workshops. Trade businesses expanding their workshop space faster than a permanent build allows. Agricultural operations needing covered working space through the winter. The use cases are wide and the logic is the same in all of them: you need more covered working space quickly and you need it without a permanent commitment.

Where They Get Used

The most common applications we see are manufacturing continuity during facility works, overflow production capacity during peak periods, on-site fabrication for large construction and infrastructure projects, and trade workshops for businesses that have grown past their current space. Our temporary workshop structures and industrial buildings cover all of those applications.

The Specification Decisions That Matter

Eave height. This is the one that catches people out most often. Workshop operations frequently involve tall equipment, vehicle ramps, large components or overhead crane systems. You need to know the maximum working height of your tallest piece of equipment, with a margin, before you specify the eave height. Our range goes from 2.3m up to 6m, with higher options on steel frame structures. We always confirm this against your actual equipment list before we quote.

Floor loading. If you are running heavy machinery or vehicles inside the structure, the floor needs to be rated for the load. Standard concrete hardstanding is adequate for most applications, but on unmade ground the sub-frame specification has to account for the loads it will carry. Tell us what is going in before we design the floor.

Ventilation. Welding, grinding, spray painting and a lot of other workshop processes generate fumes, heat and particles that need to be actively removed. Build ventilation or extraction into the specification from the start. It is much harder to retrofit.

Power supply. A lot of workshop machinery runs on three-phase power. Confirm whether you need single or three-phase, and the total load in kilowatts, before the structure is ordered. This determines how the utilities connection is planned and what the electrical installation inside the building needs to look like.

Access doors. Industrial roller shutters are standard on our workshop structures, available up to 6m wide to suit your eave height. If you need multiple access points on different elevations for busy operations, tell us at the enquiry stage and we will design them in.

Which Structure Type

PVC clearspan structures suit applications where basic weather protection and large open floor area are the priority. Light fabrication, assembly work, covered working areas that do not need a controlled environment.

Insulated structures are the right choice for precision manufacturing, electronics production, temperature-sensitive processes or anywhere a stable working environment is important for product quality or worker comfort throughout the year.

Steel frame structures handle the heaviest-duty industrial requirements: very large spans, very long-term use, overhead crane systems or mezzanine floors.

Planning and Installation

Planning permission requirements for temporary workshop buildings follow the same rules as other temporary structures. Our planning permission guide explains how it works. Standard clearspan workshop structures up to 15m x 30m typically install in three to five days. Larger or insulated specifications take longer.

For most project-specific or seasonal requirements, hiring is the most cost-effective approach. For businesses that need the space long-term and want to own the asset, purchasing makes more sense. Our ex-hire range also offers quality used workshop structures at reduced prices.
